Site: Double D
Area: French Cay

With flat seas and little wind, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to head out to French Cay! While the surface conditions were slightly choppy, the underwater world was as breathtaking as usual. After a great first dive at G-spot where divers were visited by a Hawksbill Turtle and and a Reef Shark, 'Double D' was our next stop. Turtles were on the agenda again, this time sighting a Green as well as a Hawksbill Turtle. Not long behind them were 3 Caribbean Reef Sharks! Oh, and did we mention the Eagle Rays????? Needless to say, divers had lots to talk about on the boat ride home!!! |

Site: Driveway (aka Skislope)
Area: West Caicos

A pleasant morning of diving at West Caicos today. Marine life was abundant, and the 'wall' was dramatic! Several Spiny Lobsters were found hinding in the coral recesses, and Creole Wrasse and Blue Chromis teamed along the edge of the wall. Our 2nd dive at Boat Cove equally enjoyable. |

Site: Highway to Heaven
Area: West Caicos
|
Wow! Outstanding visibility today made for some beautiful dives. "Highway to Heaven" was our first stop, and since one of our guests insisted that he'd never dove this site without seeing a Shark or two, we hoped his luck would continue today. Within 2 or 3 minutes of starting the dive, a large Caribbean Reef Shark cruised over the sand, giving us all a good look at this graceful creature! Continuing down the wall we glided over huge Coral mounds and outcroppings, making us all feel 'very small'! Towards the end of the dive, our Reef Shark made another appearance, followed by several Southern Stingrays feeding in the sand. Our 2nd dive at the 'Gulley', also pleased divers as they cruised the top of the wall, and were treated to 3 more Reef Sharks, and a large Spotted Eagle Ray! A great morning!! |

Boat: Flamingo Spirit
Site: G Spot
Area: French Cay
|
With the seas on the South side resembling 'glass', French Cay was the natural choice today. The wall here starts at about 45 feet, and then drops off sharply. The 'g spot' itself, is a 'corner' of the wall that is covered in Deep water Gorgonian Coral, huge pieces of Elephant Ear Sponge, and Black Coral. It would be easy to spend your whole dive in this area. On top of the reef, large Barrel Sponges abound, and several juvenile Spotted Drum were found hiding in the overhangs and ledges. Our 2nd dive at 'Double D' was equally at beautiful, with divers spotting several "Trunkfish" (not to be confused with the 'spotted' or 'smooth' Trunkfish), a fish rarely seen at other sites around Provo. |

Boat: Flamingo Spirit
Site: Thunderdome
Area: Northwest Point
|
After enjoying a great first dive cruising the dramatic wall at 'The Crack', we headed to the "Thunderdome" for our 2nd underwater visit of the day. This site is home to a large metal 'dome' that is a remnant of a French game show held here in the early 1990's, and is an often requested site. (In fact, its the owner's favourite!). The dome is encrusted with all sorts of marine life; here you'll find tiny Secretary Blennies poking their heads out of their holes, Xmas Tree Worms and Feather Dusters, Sea Urchins, and a myriad of other invertebrate life. Inside the dome itself, schools of Yellow Tail Snapper, Horse-eyed Jacks and Goat Fish congregated to make an impressive collage of colour. Several large Barracuda were spotted here today, as well as a Cuberra Snapper and an 18 inch Lizardfish. An enjoyable dive for everyone! |
