Flamingo Spirit
Site:
Coney Island
Area:
West Caicos

After enjoying a great dive on the wall at Devils Horn, we decided to head to one of our shallow sites for our 2nd dive. 'Coney Island' is a great 'critter dive', and today it didn't disappoint. A 5 ft Nurse Shark was spotted sleeping in one of the ledges on the mini-wall, and it lazily cruised by the divers. Our 'smaller' sightings, but equally impressive, included a Fingerprint Cyphoma, and lots of Giant Sea Anemones providing a home to spotted cleaner shrimp and Squat Anemone shrimp.

Boat:
Flamingo Spirit
Site:
Whiteface (aka The Anchor)
Area:
West Caicos

With a large ground swell rolling in, visibility was below normal at The Anchor today, but enjoyable none-the-less. Our 2nd dive at Boat Cove was a good choice as the conditions were 'normal' there, with visilibity back in the 100 ft range. Divers enjoyed cruising the top of the wall, and exploring the coral field under the boat.

Boat:
Flamingo Spirit
Site:
Picture Window
Area:
South West Reef

With the wind still strong out of the NW, Southwest Reef was a natural choice today! Flat seas and beautiful visibility were waiting for us at the dive sites. Our first dive at "Picture Window" (thanks John for the name!), was spectacular. Gardens of Deep Water Gorgonian draped the vertical wall as divers descended into the abyss, and the reef was lush with life. Our 2nd dive at a yet un-named site provided some unique sightings of some rare fish. A 'Cornet Fish', a pair of "Reef Butterfly Fish" and a pair of "Orange Filefish" were an exciting find, since they are uncommon in the Turks and Caicos, and rarely ever seen here. (Check out your Paul Humann Fish ID book if you're not sure what these look like!). All in all, a wonderful dive day at South West Reef!

Boat:
Flamingo Spirit
Site:
Gully
Area:
West Caicos

The wind picked up from the NW today, making the conditions at West Caicos a little rougher than normal, but that didn't deter our divers. In fact, the underwater conditions today were some of the best we've ever seen. Despite some surge, the visibility was specatucular..150ft+!! This made our cruise on the wall that much more enjoyable as we swam through large schools of Bermuda Chubb, Creole Wrasse, and Blue Chromis. Our 2nd dive at Driveway was equally impressive!

Boat:
Flamingo Spirit
Site:
Devils Horn
Area:
West Caicos

Our first dive today took us to Devils Horn, a dramatic section of the wall at West Caicos. As always, this site gave divers lots to talk about on their return to the boat. Several Southern Stingrays cruised around in the sand under the boat, and a school of Horse Eyed Jacks swirled around the divers on their safety stop. Our 2nd site took us to Razors Edge, located a few miles North of West Caicos on the barrier reef. This site offers some great archways and swimthroughs to explore.
