Boat:
Flamingo Spirit
Site:
Boat Cove
Area:
West Caicos

Conditions at West Caicos today were outstanding! Visibility was superb, and although a slight swell was rolling in, the underwater world was as beautiful as ever! After enjoying our first dive at "Magic Mushroom" (Is this really named for the rock formation on shore, or was it named by an old hippie?) we headed to 'boat cove' for our surface interval, where a couple of our guests showed off thier cliff diving techniques! Then it was out to the dive site of the same name. Visibility seemed as if it were unending as we peered over the top of the wall into the abyss! The keen eyes of our divers spotted a shy Goldentail Moray Eel, several Southern Stingrays, Spiny Lobsters and Butter Hamlets. The safety stop was made enjoyable by a large school of Horseyed Jacks circling under the boat! A great day!

Boat:
Flamingo Spirit
Site:
Real Mans Wall
Area:
Northwest Point

Divers were excited today to see two (or was it three?) Caribbean Reef Sharks cruise by! A highlight of the dive was the exit on to the wall through a large canyon. After enjoying some beach time at the 'tiki huts' for our surface interval, we headed out to 'the Crack' for our 2nd dive. While we peered at a small Diamond Blenny, we were delighted to turn around and see a small Hawksbill Turtle peering at us! Large schools of Mahogony Snapper, Schoolmasters covered the top of the reef, and a HUGE Nassau Grouper was spotted inside a crevice.

Boat:
Flamingo Spirit
Site:
Tiki Huts
Area:
Northwest Point

After enjoying our first dive at Real Mans Wall, we headed over the 'tiki huts' (the dive site, not the shore structure!) for our 2nd plunge in to the deep blue sea. Named for its proximity to the old Tiki Hut remnants that are left over from a French game show, this site gives divers lots to see. Many large stands of Pillar Coral are located under the boat, and the schooling snappers around them make for a nice photo opportunity. A lack of sand in this area makes for good visiblity when other areas may be 'stirred up' and that meant that we head plenty of vis to see the school of 25-30 Barracuda congregated under the boat! Mixed in were many Horse Eyed Jacks, and Yellow Tail Snapper, giving us lots to look at on our safety stop!

Boat:
Flamingo Spirit
Site:
G Spot
Area:
French Cay

The sea conditions today made a visit to French Cay a viable option! Although it was a little rough on the surface, the dives made it all worthwhile. Our first stop was the famous 'G-Spot'. The dramatic wall here is lush in Deep Water Gorgonian Fans, Black Coral, and large pieces of Elephant Ear sponge. Heading back to the boat at the end of the dive, a Caribbean Reef Shark delighted our divers by making an appearance. As one of our divers put it.."You don't see anything like that in Wisconsin!!". (Thanks Chris!) After anchoring in close to the island to escape some of the rough water for our surface interval, we headed out to 'Double D' for our 2nd dive. A beautiful Spotted Drum, numerous large Trunkfish, a large lobster and a small Hawksbill Turtle made this an enjoyable dive for all.

Boat:
Flamingo Spirit
Site:
Amphitheatre
Area:
Northwest Point

After an excellent first dive at 'the Crack', we headed out to 'Amphitheatre' for our 2nd dive. Named for a large concave overhang in the wall, this site gives divers an opportunity to explore the nooks and crannies for creatures. Several Red Banded Lobster were found hanging upside down in small holes here. On the sandy bottom of the Amphitheatre, a large Nassau Grouper was resting, while a school of Horse Eyed Jacks circled through the healthy Black Coral bushes above. Truly a spectacular dive!
