You’ve Got Questions - We’ve Got Answers
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK MY DIVES?
As a boutique dive operator with only 6 spaces to sell, we can fill up very quickly. We recommend booking with us as soon as you are sure of your trip dates to ensure space. Most of our guests book 2-6 months in advance.
HOW FAR AWAY ARE THE DIVE SITES?
We dive four premium 'wall dive' areas accessible from Provo; French Cay, West Caicos, Sandbore Channel, and Northwest Point. All are about equidistance from our dock - about a 45-60 minute boat ride each way
I NOTICE YOU'RE CALLED "FLAMINGO DIVERS", AND I HAVE A QUESTION.... WHY DO THEY LIFT ONE LEG ALL THE TIME?
Because if they lifted the other, they'd fall over. So would the divers for that matter.
WHAT KIND OF SEA CONDITIONS CAN I EXPECT AT THE DIVE SITES. WILL IT BE ROUGH?
We always try and find the best dive conditions for any given day. Our dive sites can be flat calm, or they can be choppy and swelly. We often don't know until the morning of the dive what the conditions may be like. Even then, it is sometimes still a 'best guess' scenario (as it often is with weather!)
I'M AFRAID OF SHARKS. WILL I SEE ANY?
We do see sharks on many of our dives. If you prefer not to see them, let us know. We will give you a signal to close your eyes when they are swimming by ;)
WHAT KIND OF VISIBILITY CAN I EXPECT?
Generally speaking, our visibility is very good. Of course, as with weather, we have no control over it, and it can change from one day to another based on tides, weather conditions, algae blooms etc. If the visibility is 'less than spectacular', we like to remind ourselves that we are BREATHING UNDERWATER!! and that in itself is pretty amazing ;) No matter what the vis, the fish and critters are always there for us.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER IS BAD. WILL YOU CANCEL THE DIVES?
Our primary goal is to give our guests a safe and enjoyable dive experience. In case of bad weather, our first concern is whether or not it is safe to go out. If we determine the wind and sea conditions are too adverse to be a safe dive trip, we will cancel. However, general inclement weather such as cloudiness or raininess doesn't necessarily affect our dive conditions and in that case we are not likely to cancel just because conditions are not 'Ideal'.
SPEAKING OF CANCELLATIONS...WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN'T DIVE DUE TO ILLNESS?
THE DOG ATE MY CERTIFICATION CARD. IS THIS GOING TO BE A PROBLEM?
It depends - some dogs digest plastic well, others will have a problem passing it. Please consult your veterinarian.
OKAY, I'M SERIOUS. I DON'T HAVE MY CERTIFICATION CARD ANY MORE. WILL I NEED IT?
Okay, yes. You'll need your card. While we can look up most certifications in a database online, don't rely on this method as internet service may be down the day you want to dive, or your information might not be entered correctly in the database. Contact your Certification Agency to replace your card. Most have an online form you can access.
DO YOU OFFER NIGHT DIVES?
As we're located on the South Side of the island to provide easy access to get to our premium wall diving areas, we don't offer night dives.
DO YOU OFFER NITROX?
We don't pump nitrox ourselves but can get it for you with advance notice. You must be Nitrox Certified, and have your card with you. Additional charges apply for Nitrox tanks, please enquire with us for more information
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET OFF THE BOAT? IN ALL THE OLD TV SHOWS I WATCHED, THE VERY MANLY DIVERS WOULD ALWAYS ROLL BACKWARDS OFF THE BOAT. WHY IS THIS?
Because if they roll forward they'd still be in the boat. {Groan}
